Summer of Love on the Southbank, where the JeDeCo gallery is based

Currently on the Southbank of London there are many exciting events taking place, many of the events link to the theme of love in its many forms.

"including love of cities and places
loves power to inspire creativity
and social change, and the changing
nature of love in the 21ST century."

from the Southbank website.

Between the 27Th and 29Th August the Big Wedding returns with wedding themed activities, which sounds exciting.  Not forgetting that wedding and engagement rings can be commissioned at the gallery from a range of designers.

Other Summer features on the Southbank are an innovative fountain, there is a collection of love stories in the archive studio at the Royal Festival Hall, based on the developing relationships which happened on the Southbank.  At the Southbank centre there is an installation on the theme of Love and sustainability called Just you and me and it is on until the 18Th September.

Ther are also love flags on display as well.  At the royal festival hall there is a sculpture called Venticle which is of a giant two part heart in pink and purple.

There are many more activities around the area which makes it the perfect area for a visit.

JeDeCo's recent annual party

Earlier this month members celebrated the fourth birthday of the jewellery gallery at Oxo Tower.  As always there was a real buzz to the event many guests came to join in the celebrations.  As well as the party there were many other events at Oxo Tower, there was a launch to an Architectural festival and other galleries and studios were also open which gave a great vibrant atmosphere to the area.  In the courtyard a architectural structure has been built for the festival, a colourful lively piece which was put together with ideas from people from Coin Street including ideas from Chris, Joy and Annika, who are part of the collective at JeDeCo. There were many visitors to Oxo Tower during the evening including actor Jeremy Irons who popped into JeDeCo

Designer Spotlight - Danny Ries

Danny designs and creates wearable jewellery in precious metal and mixed media.

She strives for simplicity and authenticity and has experimented over the years with unorthodox combinations of craft disciplines to achieve her goal – from hand-knitting and stitching to traditional metalworking and computer-aided design.

With a background in knitting and haberdashery, her fascination with threads – both literal and metaphorical - manifests itself in her latest embroidery collection which is inspired by Madeiran table linen (bordedas) and includes rings designed to be worn alongside those from her other collections.

A Londoner born and bred Danny is a member of the JeDeCo Jewellery Designers’ Collective based at London’s South Bank.
